Bullet-resistant (bulletproof) glass is an upper-segment laminated glass unit with specifically chosen materials and thickness that provides adequate protection against armed attacks.

It protects against armed attacks completely and/or creates time to call for help or evacuate.

It can also be incorporated into other glass products, like insulated glass units, to combine multiple benefits in one product.

Bullet-resistant glasses are used on the windows of security vehicles, armored money transport vehicles, military and other security huts, jewelry shops, entrance and exit doors, public institutions, embassies, and consulates. They can also be used in all places/vehicles that require superior protection against possible armed attacks.

There are different types and levels of bullet resistance. It is common to use EN 1063 in Europe to define protection levels:

Level Bullet Type Common Weapon Type
BR1 22 LR (5.6 mm Rimfire) Small-caliber handguns (e.g., .22 Long Rifle)
BR2 9 mm Luger (9 x 19 mm FMJ) Standard handguns (e.g., 9 mm Luger)
BR3 .357 Magnum (9 x 29 mm FMJ) Revolvers and medium-caliber handguns (.357 Magnum)
BR4 .44 Magnum (10.9 x 33 mm FMJ) Large-caliber handguns (.44 Magnum)
BR5 5.56 x 45 mm NATO (M193) Assault rifles (e.g., M16, AR-15)
BR6 7.62 x 51 mm NATO (M80) Battle rifles (e.g., FN FAL, M14)
